Exploring Farmers as Geopolitical Actors
This doctoral position focuses on a unique and timely topic: farmers as geopolitical actors. The study seeks to unravel how farmers perceive and navigate their roles amidst evolving geopolitical challenges and sustainability transformations. From the impacts of global crises like Russia’s war in Ukraine to the pressures of climate change and biodiversity loss, farmers are at the center of these dynamic forces.

Scholarship Details
The scholarship is a four-year, fully funded doctoral position beginning in August 2025. During the first year, the candidate will engage in coursework while laying the foundation for their thesis. The position also includes a monthly salary and covers tuition fees. However, funding for fieldwork expenses must be applied for separately.
The program requires full-time commitment, with departmental duties such as teaching or administrative work constituting up to 20% of the workload if undertaken. Candidates will work on-site in Gothenburg, benefiting from a collaborative and intellectually enriching environment.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must meet both general and specific entry requirements:
- General Requirements:
- A Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Completion of at least 240 higher education credits, with 60 credits at the second-cycle level.
- Specific Requirements:
- A degree in a social science or humanities discipline.
- At least 30 higher education credits with an environmental focus and a second-cycle thesis on an environmental topic.
Candidates with equivalent qualifications obtained in Sweden or abroad are also encouraged to apply.
Assessment Criteria
