Position: Assistant Coach
Required Qualifications
To be considered for the Assistant Coach position at MERSA Media Institute, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, media, communication, or a related field. Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of media practices and a keen interest in advancing media education. While no more than two years of professional experience in a media house is required, prior exposure to journalism or communication roles is advantageous.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, in both English and Amharic, are essential for success in this role. Candidates should also have proficiency in Microsoft and Google products, showcasing their ability to manage digital tools effectively. Additionally, the capacity to perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines will be necessary for navigating the dynamic and fast-paced media environment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience working as a trainer or educator within media or related fields will be highly regarded. Candidates with expertise in recording, shooting, and editing media content, as well as a creative storytelling approach, are encouraged to apply. Avid learners who thrive under pressure and are adept at managing creative and technical aspects of journalism will have a competitive edge.
Strong conflict management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within diverse teams are also desirable. Furthermore, a solid grasp of digital publishing, graphic design, and audiovisual content creation for web and social media platforms will enhance the applicant’s suitability for the role.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Coach will play a vital role in facilitating journalism education by preparing and organizing training materials, attending all training sessions, and supporting the mentorship of trainees alongside training experts. This includes ensuring trainees meet their assignments and assisting in editing their stories.
In addition, the Assistant Coach will accompany trainees during field reporting periods, prepare and oversee studio and editing schedules, and support the procurement process by preparing TORs, receiving quotations, and evaluating bids.
The role will involve producing digital content for publication, managing graphics design, and overseeing the production of audio-visual content for web and social media platforms. Additionally, the Assistant Coach will assist in event planning, management, and other project-related activities, including scheduling meetings, setting agendas, and documenting outcomes.
Organizing stakeholder meetings and facilitating communication through various publications, press releases, and reports will also be critical tasks. Furthermore, maintaining organized and updated resource databases, contact lists, and project files will be required to ensure smooth workflow and effective documentation.
