IELTS Speaking Examiners – Ethiopia
Essential Requirements and Experience
To qualify as an IELTS Speaking Examiner with the British Council, candidates must hold at least an undergraduate or Master’s degree or a qualification deemed equivalent. Additionally, applicants are required to possess a recognized qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or an equivalent qualification accredited by a reputable university or professional certification body.
Candidates must have at least 3 years of full-time teaching experience (or the equivalent part-time experience), with the majority of this experience involving adult learners (16 years and older). Full-time teaching is classified as a minimum of 14 hours of in-person instruction per week, and freelance or volunteer teaching is not considered.
Examiners should demonstrate strong professional attributes, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills necessary for conducting speaking assessments. All qualifications must be validated by a recognized institution, with additional documentation provided if required, including transcripts and accreditation by professional standards boards.
Main Responsibilities
As an IELTS Speaking Examiner, the primary duties will include conducting and marking IELTS Speaking tests with utmost accuracy and professionalism. Examiners will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date certification and attending necessary training sessions, standardization activities, and certification workshops as required by the British Council.
Beyond IELTS Speaking assessments, examiners may also be required to conduct other examinations and tests offered by the British Council, adhering to the organization’s policies and procedures. They must ensure that all activities are planned and delivered with a focus on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), incorporating these principles into all assessment tasks.
Examiners must maintain high standards of confidentiality and professionalism, managing information in line with British Council’s information management standards, data protection principles, and local regulations. Additionally, participation in training sessions, including Child Protection and Health and Safety, is a mandatory aspect of the role.
Qualifications and Skills
Successful candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, along with a recognized TESOL qualification. They should demonstrate proficiency in English language assessment and be able to effectively manage assessments while maintaining a high level of organization and professionalism.
Strong communication skills, the ability to handle sensitive information, and a commitment to continuous professional development are essential for this role. Examiners must also be prepared to engage in regular meetings and updates related to IELTS and British Council policies.
Work Location and Deadline
