Data Collector
Roles and Responsibilities
Data Collectors, also known as Enumerators, play a vital role in conducting surveys and collecting essential data to inform decision-making and policy development. This role involves direct engagement with respondents in household, firm, and phone surveys, ensuring the accuracy and quality of the collected data. Enumerators will be responsible for visiting assigned kebeles, conducting interviews, and adhering to pre-survey and post-survey protocols.
During the first three months, each data collector is required to visit their assigned kebeles twice and interview one LRSP (Low Resource Service Provider) biweekly. For the remaining five months, data collectors will conduct monthly visits and interviews. This consistent engagement ensures the data’s reliability and comprehensiveness, which are critical for the success of the projects.
Pre-survey activities include attending training sessions to fully understand the survey instruments and ethical guidelines, actively reviewing and providing feedback on the data collection tools, and preparing necessary survey materials, such as tablets, power banks, questionnaires, and identification badges. These steps ensure the enumerators are well-equipped and prepared to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must hold a BA or BSc degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, or related fields. Candidates with 1-2 years of experience in data collection, surveys, or interviews will be given preference. Experience with statistical software or data analysis tools is an added advantage.
Key skills include strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, the capacity to think strategically, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building relationships with stakeholders and ensuring the successful execution of surveys.
Other essential qualities include organizational and time management skills, networking aptitude, and attention to detail. The ability to manage complex projects, multitask effectively, and meet tight deadlines will be highly valued. Proficiency in written and oral communication, as well as an understanding of stakeholder engagement and partnership management, are critical for success in this role.

The Data Collector position involves fieldwork in various locations across Ethiopia, including Doyogana, Misirak Badawacho, Misha, Enor, Enomore, Alata Chuko, Loka Abaya, Darara, Bilate Zuria, Boricha, Duguna Fango, and Damot Woide.
