About JAY JAY TEXTILES
JAY JAY TEXTILES PLC is a significant player in Ethiopia’s garment manufacturing industry and part of the renowned JAY JAY Group, which has been in operation for over 50 years. With a strong presence in countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia, the group is dedicated to producing high-quality infant and baby wear for export to the United States. Since establishing its first factory in Ethiopia in 2014, JAY JAY TEXTILES has made a considerable impact, particularly through its operations in the Bole Lemi Industrial Park in Addis Ababa.
The company’s Ethiopian factories operate under contract manufacturing agreements with its Sri Lankan group company, Addis Ventures Private Limited, which is also its principal shareholder. JAY JAY TEXTILES serves prominent US brands, including Gerber Childrenswear, Garan, Carters, and The Children’s Place. In the past financial year, the company exported over $80 million worth of garments from Ethiopia, contributing to the group’s total exports of $350 million across all four countries. Employing approximately 8,800 individuals—90% of whom are women—the company stands as one of the largest garment employers in Ethiopia, accounting for nearly 25% of the country’s garment exports.
JAY JAY TEXTILES is deeply committed to the welfare of its workforce, many of whom come from rural areas and depend on the factory for their livelihoods. In the face of challenges such as the withdrawal of Ethiopia’s AGOA facility, which has caused widespread factory closures and job losses, the company remains steadfast in its mission to support its employees and sustain its operations. This dedication to resilience and growth makes JAY JAY TEXTILES a vital contributor to Ethiopia’s economy and its communities.
