Position Overview: Finance Assistant

The Finance Assistant is a vital member of the IRC’s Finance Department in Addis Ababa. This position supports the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IRC policies and procedures. The successful candidate will assist in various accounting tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the processing of payments, including invoices, expense reports, and other financial documents.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring proper documentation and filing.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and assist with monthly closing procedures.
  • Support the preparation of financial reports and statements.
  • Assist with the administration of payroll and employee benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with IRC’s financial policies and procedures, as well as relevant Ethiopian regulations.
  • Assist with internal and external audits as required.
  • Provide support to other members of the finance team as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Assist in monitoring project budgets and tracking expenditures.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of internal controls.

Essential Requirements

  • A university degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for diploma holders, or no prior experience required for degree holders.
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles.
  • Experience working with refugees or humanitarian organizations (preferred).
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word. Familiarity with ERP systems (Integra preferred) is an advantage.
  • Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
