Role Overview
The Refugee Protection Officer will be stationed in Djibouti with frequent travel across the IGAD region. Reporting to the Refugee Management Project Coordinator, the officer will contribute to implementing IGAD’s refugee protection policies by providing technical assistance, facilitating policy harmonization, and supporting capacity-building initiatives. This role also involves fostering collaboration among member states, international organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure effective resource mobilization and shared best practices in refugee management.
Candidates must possess a minimum of a master’s degree in law, international law, political science, or a related field, with at least five years of experience in refugee protection, international humanitarian law, or human rights. The position requires a deep understanding of refugee dynamics in the IGAD region and the ability to apply legal principles to refugee protection issues. Experience working with multilateral development partners and involvement in regional or international programs related to refugee management are highly desirable.
The Refugee Protection Officer will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating national legislation and guidelines related to refugee protection, producing reports for internal and external stakeholders, and organizing exchange visits to facilitate knowledge-sharing among member states. Candidates must demonstrate strong policy analysis, project management, and results-based monitoring skills, alongside excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively in multicultural environments.
