Human Rights Officer, Human Rights Education

Purpose of the Role

The primary responsibility of the Human Rights Officer is to design and implement human rights education programs, ensuring their alignment with current challenges and emerging trends. By developing educational materials, facilitating workshops, and fostering collaborative relationships, the officer will play a pivotal role in mainstreaming human rights education in various settings. This role also involves conducting needs assessments, researching emerging trends, and creating innovative teaching materials to promote human rights awareness effectively.


Key Responsibilities

The Human Rights Officer will take the lead in developing comprehensive educational resources, including lesson plans, manuals, and online courses, to address pressing human rights issues. The role includes conducting workshops, seminars, and training sessions that promote inclusive and participatory learning environments.

The officer will also be responsible for organizing educational events such as conferences and forums, collaborating with NGOs, schools, and community organizations to expand human rights education initiatives. By staying informed about global human rights developments and instructional methodologies, the officer will ensure EHRC’s education programs remain relevant and impactful.

In addition, the officer will work closely with internal teams, trainers, and graphic designers to create user-friendly and visually engaging materials. Regular evaluation of the curriculum’s effectiveness, data collection, and analysis will be crucial to refining and improving education initiatives. The officer will also provide strategic advice to ensure human rights education planning aligns with the commission’s objectives.


Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must hold an LLB or LLM in Human Rights Law, International Law, or related fields. A minimum of four years of relevant experience is required for candidates with a bachelor’s degree, while those with a master’s degree must have at least two years of experience.

Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, instructional design, or educational program management. Strong research, writing, and editing skills are essential, as well as proficiency in instructional design principles. Familiarity with human rights issues, excellent communication abilities, and collaborative skills are also required.

Proficiency in Amharic is mandatory, while knowledge of additional local languages is an advantage. Candidates must also be computer literate and capable of working in a dynamic, results-oriented environment.


Salary and Benefits

EHRC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a gross monthly salary ranging from ETB 20,400.00 to ETB 23,683.00, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Additional allowances include ETB 8,640.00 for housing and ETB 3,300.00 for transport, ensuring financial stability and well-being for its employees.
