EngenderHealth is seeking a passionate and qualified professional for the role of Adolescent Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (AYSRH) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Officer. This role is critical to advancing the organization’s mission of enhancing sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) through a rights-based approach in the Somali region of Ethiopia, specifically in Jigjiga. Reporting directly to the Regional SRHR Coordinator, the AYSRH/GBV Officer will lead the day-to-day implementation of EngenderHealth-supported projects. The primary focus will be on empowering youth as “right holders” to claim their SRHR, while strengthening service providers as “duty bearers” responsible for creating an environment that enables young people to exercise their rights.
In this role, the AYSRH/GBV Officer will engage in all aspects of project design, planning, and implementation, with responsibilities ranging from coordinating field activities to facilitating training and workshops. The Officer will work closely with government partners, healthcare providers, educators, and community stakeholders, fostering a collaborative network to support SRHR and GBV-related education and services. Essential tasks include organizing training on SRHR and gender equity, facilitating the establishment of “women and girls’ friendly spaces” in schools, and supporting health facilities in providing SRHR and GBV services to young people. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in health or social sciences, along with experience in adolescent health and a deep commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment.
Key Responsibilities
The AYSRH/GBV Officer will be instrumental in shaping and executing the “A Rights Based Approach for Enhancing SRHR” project in Jigjiga. Primary responsibilities include creating detailed plans for project activities, conducting assessments, and organizing review meetings to ensure goals are met. The Officer will assist in the adaptation of educational materials and training tools for use in schools, community settings, and healthcare facilities. Through these efforts, the Officer will foster an inclusive, youth-centered approach that incorporates the voices and needs of young people, women, and men across the region. In collaboration with EngenderHealth’s technical staff, the Officer will also advocate for SRHR and gender equality by facilitating policy discussions with community leaders and government officials.
Additionally, the Officer will support local health facilities in building robust referral systems for GBV survivors, creating “one-stop” GBV services, and ensuring comprehensive care through partnerships with relevant agencies. This position involves active community engagement, enabling the Officer to develop strategies that improve SRHR and GBV response services across various sectors, from education to law enforcement. The Officer will regularly monitor the project’s progress and maintain clear communication with partners, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to carry out their roles effectively. By facilitating skills-enhancing sessions, the Officer will strengthen the capacity of local stakeholders to sustain SRHR and GBV initiatives within the community.

Candidates for the AYSRH/GBV Officer position should possess a bachelor’s degree in health, social sciences, or a related field. Previous experience working with adolescents, youth, and other marginalized groups in SRHR and GBV projects is essential, particularly in school and community settings.
