As a Clerk for Political Affairs, you will work under the supervision of Japanese officers in the Political Division, playing a key role in the Embassy’s operations. Your responsibilities will include analyzing Ethiopia’s political landscape, translating and proofreading official speeches and documents, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the division. Key Responsibilities
The Clerk for Political Affairs will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing Ethiopia’s domestic and foreign policies, providing insights that support the Embassy’s diplomatic activities. You will ensure the linguistic accuracy and natural flow of official speeches, reports, and documents, translating between English and Amharic as needed. Additionally, you will assist in the preparation of briefing materials, presentations, and other documents required by the Political Division.
Collaboration with Japanese officers and other team members will be a central part of your role. You will work independently on assigned tasks while remaining responsive to supervision and contributing to the overall goals of the division. Your ability to analyze complex political issues, communicate effectively, and maintain a high level of professionalism will be critical to your success in this position.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, candidates must have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in political analysis, international relations, or a related field. A strong academic background in political science, particularly with a focus on Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa region, is essential. Native-level proficiency in both English and Amharic is required, along with experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a flexible and serious work attitude, with the ability to handle a variety of tasks efficiently. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are key competencies for this role.
