Junior Pharmacist Responsibilities and Requirements
As a Junior Pharmacist at Droga Pharma PLC, you will be responsible for implementing systems of good dispensing practice for both Over-the-Counter (OTC) and Prescription-Only Medicines (POM). This includes ensuring accurate dispensing that aligns with the prescriber’s intentions and the consumer’s needs and safety. It is crucial to ensure that the right patient receives the right medicine and that the quality and integrity of the medicine are maintained throughout its shelf life. Providing clear and correct instructions to patients to ensure the safe and effective use of the medicine, optimizing the benefits of treatment, is also a key responsibility.
Your duties will extend to providing patients with essential information, including special instructions for use, any applicable warnings, potential adverse effects or side effects, and the necessary actions to take should certain events occur. You will be expected to review patient personal details and medication history, updating and maintaining this information during the dispensing process, particularly for patients with chronic diseases. Contacting the prescriber regarding a prescription or a patient’s therapy will be necessary in certain situations, ensuring the best possible patient care.
Furthermore, you will minimize the likelihood of dispensing errors by ensuring medicines are dispensed with legible and unambiguous labels. You will also confirm the legality, completeness, correctness, and therapeutic appropriateness of prescription papers, identifying any issues with the patient’s condition. Reporting any suspected adverse drug reactions (ADRs) or suspected fake and substandard medicines to the technical manager or relevant authority is crucial. Other responsibilities include ordering and stocking both prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as complying with standard operating procedures and any requirements specified by regulatory bodies and the company. You will be expected to work ethically and with full professional competence at all times.
