About EDRMC
The Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC) stands as a vital pillar in Ethiopia’s efforts to mitigate and manage the impacts of natural and man-made disasters. Despite Ethiopia’s remarkable economic growth in recent years, the nation remains highly vulnerable to disasters, including droughts, floods, and other emergencies that pose risks to its socio-economic progress. EDRMC is the federal agency tasked with overseeing disaster risk management strategies to ensure that the country’s developmental gains are safeguarded from these recurring challenges.
EDRMC’s approach to disaster management is rooted in collaboration and partnership. By working closely with international development partners, including the European Union, the Commission designs and implements innovative strategies that address both immediate and long-term disaster risks. These partnerships allow EDRMC to leverage global expertise and funding to enhance its capacity to predict, prepare for, and respond to disasters. One of its key initiatives includes an EU-funded project focused on automating disaster risk profiling at the woreda (district) level, ensuring precision and efficiency in risk management practices.
With its headquarters in Addis Ababa, EDRMC plays a pivotal role in shaping Ethiopia’s disaster preparedness and response frameworks. The organization combines technology, research, and community engagement to build a resilient nation. Through innovative solutions like the Woreda Risk Profile Automation System, EDRMC ensures that its strategies are both effective and sustainable, creating a safer and more secure Ethiopia for generations to come.
