Livelihoods and Food Security Coordinator Responsibilities
The Livelihoods and Food Security Coordinator will oversee the implementation of Food Security and Livelihoods projects, ensuring adherence to NRC’s policies and donor requirements. The role includes managing a team of field staff, supervising project activities, and maintaining strong relationships with local authorities and stakeholders. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of strategies and proposals to address identified gaps in food security and livelihoods, ensuring that the projects are tailored to meet the needs of the most vulnerable populations.
The coordinator will handle key aspects such as reporting, project documentation, and compliance with organizational and donor standards. Regular progress updates will be shared with Area Managers, and innovative approaches to project activities will be encouraged. Furthermore, the position involves promoting synergies between NRC’s Food Security and Livelihoods initiatives and other programs to maximize impact and efficiency. The coordinator is expected to ensure the security and functionality of the NRC office and property while addressing logistical or administrative issues in collaboration with the support team.
In addition to overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Food Security and Livelihoods projects, the coordinator will facilitate capacity building for staff members, transferring essential skills to enhance project implementation. Qualifications and Competencies
Candidates for the Livelihoods and Food Security Coordinator position must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in agriculture, agro-economy, economics, social sciences, or related disciplines. A minimum of three years’ experience in managing food security and livelihood projects in humanitarian or recovery settings is required. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working in complex and volatile contexts, particularly within Ethiopia, and possess a thorough understanding of the regional landscape.
Strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage teams and build trust, are essential for success in this role. Candidates must be fluent in English, both written and verbal, and demonstrate excellent organizational and computer skills. Familiarity with project start-up and exit strategies is advantageous, as is experience in empowering and developing team members in challenging environments.
Behavioral competencies such as handling insecure environments, managing resources effectively, and delivering results under pressure are highly valued. Candidates should also exhibit a proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to learn and adapt.
