Head of Mission – Ethiopia
The selected candidate will be based in Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to project sites across the country. Reporting to the Regional Manager based in Nairobi, Kenya, and working closely with the Area Administrative Coordinator in Italy, the Head of Mission will oversee the overall management of CESVI’s operations in Ethiopia. This includes strategic planning, program supervision, human resources management, and donor engagement.
The position is set to commence in March 2025, with an initial contract duration of 12 months and the potential for extension. The monthly salary ranges from €3,900 to €4,300 gross, accompanied by additional benefits such as a €350 monthly housing allowance, comprehensive insurance coverage, one round-trip flight every 12 months, and visa renewal support.
The Head of Mission will ensure that CESVI’s projects align with organizational goals and donor expectations. This includes monitoring project progress, conducting field visits, and coordinating with project managers to ensure the successful implementation of initiatives. Responsibilities extend to ensuring compliance with CESVI’s internal procedures, managing office operations, and overseeing procurement processes in collaboration with regional and headquarter teams.
Leadership and Strategy
A key aspect of this role involves leading the development of CESVI’s Ethiopia program strategy in collaboration with the Regional Office. The Head of Mission will identify intervention priorities, update the Country Strategy Paper, and facilitate the alignment of projects with CESVI’s long-term vision. Furthermore, the role requires engaging with donors and stakeholders to secure funding, foster collaborations, and develop innovative program initiatives.
The successful candidate will represent CESVI in Ethiopia, participating in high-level meetings and networking opportunities to strengthen partnerships with government agencies, international organizations, and civil society. This includes attending forums, promoting CESVI’s mission, and advocating for sustainable solutions to pressing humanitarian challenges.
Human Resources and Safeguarding
The Head of Mission will oversee all local human resources, ensuring adherence to local employment laws, tax regulations, and CESVI’s policies. Regular staff capacity-building initiatives, recruitment oversight, and the enforcement of safeguarding measures are integral components of the role. CESVI maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward harm or exploitation of children and vulnerable adults, emphasizing the importance of a safe and ethical work environment.
Moreover, CESVI is committed to the health and well-being of its staff. Candidates will undergo an occupational health assessment to ensure suitability for the position and proper vaccination coverage.

CESVI is seeking candidates with a university degree in fields such as International Development, Political Economy, or related disciplines. A minimum of seven years of senior leadership experience in humanitarian or development contexts is required, preferably in East Africa.
