This role supports the smooth implementation of the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) and ensures that beneficiaries receive the necessary interventions to improve their health and well-being.

At Save the Children, we strive to create an impact by addressing malnutrition in vulnerable communities. If you are passionate about making a difference and have the skills to ensure effective program implementation, this position is for you.

Role Responsibilities

The TSFP Measurer’s primary role is to assess and record the nutritional status of beneficiaries accurately. This involves conducting anthropometric measurements such as weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) to identify cases of moderate and severe acute malnutrition. Proper measurement tools, including MUAC tapes, scales, and height boards, will be used to determine eligibility for the program. The Measurer also ensures that the data collected is accurate and recorded systematically in program registers and beneficiary cards.

The role also involves ensuring that beneficiaries are appropriately admitted into the program based on nutritional thresholds and other eligibility criteria. The TSFP Measurer must work collaboratively with team members to ensure seamless service delivery, maintain equipment functionality, and address any logistical challenges. Effective communication with caregivers and beneficiaries is essential to explain the measurement process and the importance of participation in the program.

Moreover, the TSFP Measurer plays a critical role in community engagement by building trust and fostering positive relationships. The position requires maintaining cleanliness and safety standards to prevent the spread of infections and ensuring the dignity and respect of all participants. Adherence to Save the Children’s protocols and safeguarding policies is mandatory, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to the well-being of children.

Skills and Qualifications

Applicants must have completed at least a high school education, although a certificate or diploma in health, nutrition, or a related field is highly preferred. Relevant training or experience in data collection, malnutrition screening, or humanitarian programs is also an asset. Familiarity with using measurement tools like MUAC tapes and scales is essential, as is an understanding of anthropometric techniques for malnutrition detection.

The role requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills to manage records effectively and ensure timely reporting to supervisors. Candidates should also be physically fit, as the role involves fieldwork and the use of lightweight equipment for extended periods. Fluency in the local language, Amharic, and English is mandatory for effective communication with beneficiaries and team members.

Save the Children values integrity, professionalism, and adaptability in its team members. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to humanitarian principles, ethical data handling, and the organization’s core mission to support children and vulnerable groups.
