The Role: IYCF Officer

The IYCF Officer will oversee the implementation of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) programs within Save the Children’s health and nutrition initiatives. The role requires a hands-on approach to program management, capacity building, and community engagement.

The officer will ensure that all activities align with national protocols and international standards. Responsibilities include providing one-on-one and group counseling for pregnant and lactating women, conducting formative assessments to develop culturally appropriate materials, and facilitating the establishment of Mother-to-Mother Support Groups. Additionally, the officer will monitor anthropometric measurements, manage behavior change communication strategies, and liaise with local health authorities to integrate IYCF practices into existing healthcare structures.

This one-year, full-time contract position reports directly to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator and will have significant responsibilities in driving the success of Save the Children’s programs in Afdem Woreda.


Key Requirements

Applicants must possess a BSc degree or college diploma in nursing or a related health field, with at least four years of professional experience, including three years in an NGO setting. Strong knowledge of nutrition and health program implementation, data collection, and training methodologies is essential.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and the ability to work under challenging conditions. Proficiency in local languages and a proven commitment to team collaboration are highly valued. Previous experience in the Somali region, knowledge of international accountability standards, and a background in child-friendly accountability systems are advantageous.
