Plan International Ethiopia is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Coordinator for the Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) team. This position is a re-advertisement and offers an exciting opportunity for professionals who are passionate about child protection, gender-based violence, and sexual and reproductive health-related projects. The role is based in Jigjiga, Ethiopia, and is open only to Ethiopian Nationals.

About the Role

The Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the implementation of safeguarding policies and gender equality initiatives within Plan International Ethiopia. This position requires a strong background in managing complex projects, fostering inclusive practices, and upholding child protection standards in alignment with Plan International’s global policies. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of development and humanitarian principles, with experience in managing large-scale, donor-funded projects in an international NGO setting.

Responsibilities

In this role, the Project Coordinator will oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of safeguarding and gender-related projects. The position requires ensuring the full integration of safeguarding and GEI policies into daily operations. This includes the proper induction and continuous training of staff to uphold these standards, as well as maintaining a robust reporting and data submission process. The Project Coordinator will also coordinate closely with local and international teams to ensure effective collaboration and alignment with global priorities.

Key responsibilities involve managing complex budgets, exceeding €1 million, and working closely with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with child protection, GBV, and SRHR policies. Additionally, the role includes developing and strengthening partnerships with community organizations, ensuring that safeguarding and gender equality considerations are embedded across all projects and programs.

Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BSc) in Sexual and Reproductive Health, Project Management, Development Studies, or a related Social Sciences field. A minimum of five years of relevant experience, with at least three years managing projects within a development or humanitarian context, is essential.

Experience managing donor-funded, large-scale projects is critical, with a strong background in Child Protection (CP), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) projects. Proficiency in both English and Amharic is required, with knowledge of Somali languages being an added advantage.

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a thorough understanding of NGO Code of Conduct, child protection policies, and established international standards for safeguarding children and young people. Strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, are essential for success in this role.
