Responsibilities of the Senior IT Specialist

The Senior IT Specialist will oversee all aspects of TechnoServe Ethiopia’s IT systems and infrastructure, ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly. This includes managing and maintaining servers, networking devices, wireless and wired LANs, and essential IT equipment like multi-functional printers and video conferencing systems. Additionally, the Senior IT Specialist will be responsible for maintaining a secure and reliable data backup system and restoring data when necessary.

A significant part of the role is developing and implementing country-specific IT policies and procedures to align with the organization’s global IT strategy. This includes identifying gaps in daily operations and providing IT solutions to address these challenges. The specialist will also coordinate with procurement teams to acquire the necessary technology products and services, ensuring that all IT procurement aligns with the fiscal budget plan.

Providing exceptional user support is another key responsibility. The Senior IT Specialist will address staff concerns related to network connectivity, corporate applications, and various hardware devices such as PCs, tablets, smartphones, and cameras. The role involves configuring devices for new employees, managing user accounts, and orienting staff on IT policies and systems. Regular visits to branch offices may be required to resolve technical issues and establish network systems.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution. A minimum of five years of experience in managing and supporting IT infrastructure is essential, preferably within an international NGO setting.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems, network devices like routers and firewalls, and business application support. Proficiency in Google Workspace, IT customer service management, and video conferencing systems is also required. A strong command of written and spoken English is essential for effective communication.

In addition to technical skills, candidates must demonstrate problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing IT challenges. The ability to build staff capacity through training and awareness programs is also vital for success in this role.
