Emergency WASH Officer

The Emergency WASH Officer will play a pivotal role in the implementation and supervision of water, sanitation, and hygiene projects. This position is based in Laelay Tselemt, where the officer will oversee WASH interventions targeted at internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities.

Candidates must hold a BSc in Hydraulic or Water Resource Engineering or a related field. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD and WaterCAD is essential, alongside experience in the study, design, and implementation of water supply schemes. Strong English communication skills are required, while proficiency in Amharic, Tigrigna, or Oromifa is an advantage depending on the project location.

The officer’s duties will include preparing monthly and quarterly plans, monitoring project implementation, supervising construction quality, and ensuring compliance with SPHERE standards. The ideal candidate will possess skills such as emotional intelligence, effective communication, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

This is a contract-based role with a salary aligned to the organization’s scale. The position reports to the Program Coordinator.

Hygiene and Sanitation Promotion Officer

The Hygiene and Sanitation Promotion Officer will focus on promoting health and hygiene practices in emergency settings. The position requires working closely with the community to design and implement effective hygiene education programs, ensuring behavioral change interventions are impactful and sustainable.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Sanitation, Public Health, or Nursing, along with at least three years of experience in similar roles, preferably within the NGO sector. Prior experience in emergency response, hygiene promotion, and needs assessment in humanitarian contexts is highly desirable.

Key responsibilities include conducting qualitative assessments, preparing implementation plans, supervising community hygiene promoters, and ensuring activities are executed in collaboration with government structures and volunteers. The position also calls for strong oral and written communication skills, cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively.

This contract-based role is located in Laelay Tselemt (Dima) Woreda and Dugda Dawa Woreda of Guji Zone, with a salary determined by the organization’s scale. The Hygiene and Sanitation Promotion Officer will report to the Program Coordinator.
